New Orleans has some of the best food in the country, but not all treats can be remade outside the city. They are only good in NOLA. (It must be something in the water.) As mother’s side of the family is Cajun, I can attest to this as I grew up on it. One of the treats has recently been taken off the only can find good ones in New Orleans list. Which treat? It is Beignets.
I am the type of gift giver that tries to give personal gifts to friends and loved ones. This is usually in the form of tasty treats like cookies or jam (see my family recipe here). However, some people do not like sweets. I also get tired of making the same recipes over and over again.
I recently checked out Delicious Gifts by Jess McCloskey. It is a book filled with recipes for edible gifts that any amateur chef can complete.
There is one treat that I haven’t come across in the United States as often as I did in Japan. What is it? It is called Milk Pudding. In Japan, this can be found in any connivence store on any street. In the United States, you have to scour the shelves of the local asian market and pray that they have it. If you aren’t familiar with milk pudding, you are missing out on a delicacy.
Easter has many traditions from searching for hidden eggs to attending church with family. However, in some parts of the world Hot Cross Buns are a special Easter treat. It graces their breakfast tables and as afternoon snacks. I have to say this is not a personal tradition for Easter, but why not try a new bake. I might even be making a new tradition for my family.
Being healthy is hard. Snacking is one of my biggest down falls. I seem to crave a little something around 2 to help me get through the day. The bag of chips at the vending machine looks all the more tempting and seems to be surrounded by a holy light summoning me closer. However, my snack could really be sweet or salty depending on my mood. So I have decided to pack my healthy goodies in order to beat the afternoon hunger. I also decided to share my healthy favorites for you to try for snacks in your daily pack.
