It is not unusual for a blogger to be asked why they have started their blog. Many have a niche that they felt needed a new voice in. Some have a very narrow of interest such as food or travel. However, I never wanted to do your standard blog.
Dear Younger Me,
In a few years, life will hit you hard. Growing up is a pain in the butt, but a necessary evil. You will learn so much and experience so much. Amazing people will come and go. You will discover so many exciting places too. However, there are a few things I wish for you to know to hopefully make the efforts of growing up a little easier.
College is an interesting time. You learn things all the time. Somethings are expected. Others are not. In the end, all you can do is grow, and learn. We are not experts of life quite yet, but maybe you can learn a little from me. Here are the 10 things I have learned so far in college.
Being healthy is hard. Snacking is one of my biggest down falls. I seem to crave a little something around 2 to help me get through the day. The bag of chips at the vending machine looks all the more tempting and seems to be surrounded by a holy light summoning me closer. However, my snack could really be sweet or salty depending on my mood. So I have decided to pack my healthy goodies in order to beat the afternoon hunger. I also decided to share my healthy favorites for you to try for snacks in your daily pack.
The good old days of meeting your potential love interest out at the bar has come and gone. (Not that you wanted to meet some of them half the time anyway!) So introducing dating apps to the the modern dating, more specifically, Bumble. February is the time for heart, love, and roses. It has me thinking about the language of love. When I think of love language, it means how do we communicate love with those around us. We each communicate differently with our family, friends, and lovers. However, there is a few things that is the same no matter.
This is my year that I have been focused on transforming myself into a happier and healthier version of myself. One way I hope to do that is through changing the way I speak about myself. It seems like an easy goal for the new year, but it is hard. I know that I am not alone on this goal when I cam across Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations with Bishop T.D. Jakes. And you know that if Oprah promotes it then it is going to be amazing.
Creativity gives you the power to create amazing things. But if someone asked the question of where did it come from, I can’t answer that. I don’t think anyone currently can. I was listening to TED Talk Radio Hour when they discussed this very topic.
A goal of the new year for me has been to work on being happier and healthier. One of the ways I hope to accomplish that goal is by learning how to erase the negative voice in my head. But it is easier said than done when it comes to erasing self doubt.
Then I was gifted with the book, The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown. She has been featured on Oprah and TED Talks. She is a writer and research. She breaks down the shame and fear we face in life such as the fear of standing out or being enough. She explains the psychological why along with how we can reverse the process. In the end, readers and practicers of these steps will move toward what she calls “wholehearted living” or simply embracing who you are.
