Testing Madeleine Recipe from Dominique Ansel

I recently got a Masterclass subscription on a whim to see if the investment to learn from the experts was worth it. One of the first classes I tried was the Dominique Ansel’s Pastry Fundamentals class. He is a famous baker from NYC and France. He is known all over the world and is a true expert. Though, I was still skeptical to take his class. An expert may not be a good teacher since they maybe unable to convey his knowledge adequately.

Pastry Love: Not Your Mama’s Bakes

Flour is one of the top bakeries in the United States and the head baker, Joanne Chang, is a genius. Her understanding of flour and sugar leads her able to have inventive bakes that you can’t find any where else. If you don’t live near Flour like me, never fear there is one way to try her goods without stepping foot inside her bakery. I recently purchased her latest cookbook, Pastry Love. Pastry Love is filled with recipes from the bakery and a few of her personal favorites.

La Casita Bakeshop: Masters of the Puff

Tucked away in a strip mall in Richardson, there is a bakery that has delicious creations. Creations come in different forms of pastry dough such as puff and normal dough. The treats are flavored with both savory and sweet tasting that can satisfy any palate. This magical shop is called La Casita Bakeshop, and you can only get treats on certain days and times.

Bisous Bisous Pâtisserie: Piece of Paris in Dallas, Texas

I recently found a little piece of France in Downtown Dallas. The cute little wicker tables on the sidewalk are an iconic reference to the little tables in Paris. But the flash back to Paris is not the only reason I traveled to Downtown, I actually was here for the sweet delicious treats.

Bisous Bisous Pâtesserie has an arrangement of French baked goods. That means delicious macaroons, tarts, cakes, and croissants. They also serve delicious cafe drinks to go with your sweet treat. An unique feature of the shop is that they also offer cooking classes so you can learn how to  make their delicious treats. The photos on Instagram looked so amazing. So me and a friend got a round of coffee and a tray of delicious treats to dine on.

Zumbo’s Just Dessert: Fantasy Dessert

Dessert is supposed to be just a sweet treat, but what if someone could change that treat into a work of art? Would you eat it? I think I would.

On Netflix, there is a wonderful cooking competition show called Zumbo’s Just Dessert. In this show art meets food. In Zumbo’s factory, contestants from Australia and New Zealand try to impress dessert chefs Rachel Khoo and the man himself, Zumbo.

Learning Pastry from Le Cordon Bleu’s 100 Step by Step Recipes

When I came across Le Cordon Bleu’s Pastry School cookbook, I was excited to advance my baking knowledge. I thought it may even a cool gift for fellow cooks and bakers. It was full of colorful photographs of the creations along with photos depicting each step of the process. Each recipe was labeled with a taste description along with a difficulty level. So with my baking level only at the beginner’s stage, I started with something easy. Or was it…?

Gran Caffe San Marco: An Italian Sweet Treat

Florence is the city of delicious foods. In food blogs, we hear about the pizzas, pastas, and gelato of Florence. However, there is more to the food of Florence than just those three things. Today I am going to look at the more sweet side of the items one should try while in Florence. So after doing some online research from accredited reviewers and trip advisory sites, I went to one of the top cafés in Florence for a sweet treat. Gran Caffe San Marco has many dinning options from to-go sandwiches to culinary pizzas. But this time I focused on the giant sweets display case that runs on both sides of the café.
