Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are one of my favorite television shows to watch. I am a huge fan. However, many fans do not know that this beloved series started as a book series by Kerry Greenwood. I was able to previously review Queen of the Flowers to vote between book and the show. Now, I am picking up another book from the series, and once again voting on which version is better. So here is Murder in Montparnasse: Book vs. Show, Round 2!
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I decided to cover a beloved romance series that I have read but now I can say I have watched as well. The romance series that I am discussing is the Outlander series. (If you remember I had covered the book in an earlier post, Outlander: Take off the shelf or beloved series?) Thanks to Netflix, I have watched all the latest episodes of Outlander, the TV series, and can now compare the show to the book.
Next month is Black History Month. During this month, we are suppose to celebrate the accomplishments and progress that African and African Americans have achieved in a society that marginalized them. However, some pieces of their history is missing. There is an incident of American History that was covered up. It is called the Tulsa Race Riot.
Haven’t heard of it? I didn’t either until this radio show. The events that led to the dissemination of a major portion of the city and hundreds of deaths all started with a misunderstanding between a white girl and a black boy
Jack the Ripper is famous for terrorizing the streets of London. However, there is more than one famous killer from the United Kingdom. It seems like every neighborhood or county has a famous killing, and Murder Maps proves it!
If you open up any history book in America, what do you see dominate the pages? It is photos and listings of white men that ‘shaped’ our present environment, but there is a group of people missing from the history line. It is WOMEN! I know the women in my family were innovators and forces of change, but their efforts can often go over looked. It makes you wonder how many women are left from the story line simply because they weren’t born male. Well, one woman’s organization decided to start telling the stories of how women changed history.
Venice has the reputation of being a tourist run city especially in the summer. It seems like every year there is a new news report stating the ongoing battle between Venice and the tourism industry. So when I descended into the city of Venice, I was not surprised to see the throngs of tourist. But where were the locals? It seemed like each cobbled street led to more signs of the tourist industry in Venice. It was starting to feel like the Venetian hotel in Vegas, but a hop, skip, and boat ride away I found my piece of local paradise.
Venice is a city full of opulence, history, and beauty. The one of the most beautiful sites being St. Mark’s Square. Turning about in a circle, you are struck on all sides by Venetian architecture. The clash of Italian and Arabic influence are twined together to create these beautiful pieces of history. However, the most unique feature of the square is the Doge’s Palace. All over Italy you can see cathedrals, and museums but there is only one Doge’s Palace. If you aren’t familiar with this place, don’t worry. I will not only tell you why you should know about this place and why you should visit if you ever find yourself in Venice, but why is the Doge’s Palace important to the culture of Venice and Italy.
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries are one of my favorite television shows to watch. I have probably rewatched the show more times than I care to admit. I love all the characters and stories so much. I can recite the episodes from memory. However, I am not the only fan out there in the world. I have watched the fan base grow and grow as this show has reached the global audiences around the world thanks to streaming services like Netflix. However, many fans do not know that this beloved series started as a book series by Kerry Greenwood.
I never thought I would have the opportunity to read one of the books in this series until I found Queen of the Flowers in my local library. Miss Fisher must unwrap the mysterious disappearance of one of her flower maidens that she was in charge of while her daughter Ruth goes missing as well. This book is full of mystery and intrigue. The pages are filled with twist and turns. The unexpected and expected. Whatever is to come of the Honorable Miss Fisher and her household of misfits? Well, the only way to find out would be to read this tale wouldn’t it?
Alcatraz Prison sits on an island outside the city of San Francisco, California. It stares back at you from across the bay like a totem of silence. It became a symbol of justice in America for many years. Convicts served out their sentences here. Native Americans tried to revision the island into a sanctuary for themselves. In the end, those who made this island their home over the years all came looking for one thing and that is justice in some shape and form.
