I love a good cake recipe for birthday parties. They are classic and elegant. Plus, birthday candles sit perfectly on top. For the most recent family birthday celebration, I decided to crack open my new cook book from King Arthur and try one of their classic cake recipes. I decided to go with their Classic Yellow Cake.
I love exploring new recipes and cookbooks. The good ideas can come from any where. A popular magazine to an innovative blogger. I recently came across a cookbook that had a variety of recipes from different influences and chefs. The recipes range from easy to make to hard. This cookbook is called O, The Oprah Magazine Cookbook. All the recipes featured are from various chefs that submitted these recipes to Oprah’s magazine. If the sign off from Oprah isn’t enough to convince you to give this cookbook a look, just spend a moment to flip through.
I recently found a little piece of France in Downtown Dallas. The cute little wicker tables on the sidewalk are an iconic reference to the little tables in Paris. But the flash back to Paris is not the only reason I traveled to Downtown, I actually was here for the sweet delicious treats.
Bisous Bisous Pâtesserie has an arrangement of French baked goods. That means delicious macaroons, tarts, cakes, and croissants. They also serve delicious cafe drinks to go with your sweet treat. An unique feature of the shop is that they also offer cooking classes so you can learn how to make their delicious treats. The photos on Instagram looked so amazing. So me and a friend got a round of coffee and a tray of delicious treats to dine on.
A goal of the new year is to be healthier. One way that I hope to achieve it is by making healthier choices when it comes to my sweet treats. One way of doing that is to include some whole grains in your recipes vs. only using all-purpose flour. I turned to the flour company that I trust for my baking needs, King Arthur’s Flour Company. I love the gingerbread cookie recipe I found on their site. The company has an entire cookbook dedicated to the use of whole grain in recipes. It is called King Arthur Flour Whole Grain Baking. I have a sweet tooth so I decided to focus on sweet treats that I can make and hopefully change out for my regular baking treats.
When I came across Le Cordon Bleu’s Pastry School cookbook, I was excited to advance my baking knowledge. I thought it may even a cool gift for fellow cooks and bakers. It was full of colorful photographs of the creations along with photos depicting each step of the process. Each recipe was labeled with a taste description along with a difficulty level. So with my baking level only at the beginner’s stage, I started with something easy. Or was it…?

This summer I got to spend a little time in the North of Italy in the cities: Venice, Florence, and Milan. I loved eating my way through the streets and finding the best eats. I am a big TV watcher and a big foodie. So the shows that you can typically find me watching are cooking shows or food competition shows. It is a staple of late night watching or late Sundays mornings. I have watched so many that I find myself talking to the TV about what I would have done and/or correcting the competitors.
