Revisiting Italian Baker

Last year, I found this wonderful cookbook about Italian baking in my local library. It was called Italian Baker. I took a few of the recipes in this cook book and tried them out to see how well the recipes were written and if they were as tasty as I thought they could be. I was very happy and so was my belly. I was so happy to not only keep a copy of the recipes that I tried, but copied a few more recipes to try in the near future. With some free time recently, I revisited these recipes that I hadn’t tried yet and picked one to try out.

Raisin-Pecan Rye Bread: Nutty Sweet Slice

I love my bagel in the morning with cream cheese, but even I need to change up my morning routine sometimes. I did this by trying a new bread recipe for my morning treat that I discovered while flipping through old magazines that I had saved. The photos looked scrumptious and made me hungry for a slice. With my stomach’s agreement, I picked up the Raisin-Pecan Rye Bread recipe (which you can find here) and gave it a try. Just look at the photo on the left to see how my attempt went!

Pastry Love: Not Your Mama’s Bakes

Flour is one of the top bakeries in the United States and the head baker, Joanne Chang, is a genius. Her understanding of flour and sugar leads her able to have inventive bakes that you can’t find any where else. If you don’t live near Flour like me, never fear there is one way to try her goods without stepping foot inside her bakery. I recently purchased her latest cookbook, Pastry Love. Pastry Love is filled with recipes from the bakery and a few of her personal favorites.

La Casita Bakeshop: Masters of the Puff

Tucked away in a strip mall in Richardson, there is a bakery that has delicious creations. Creations come in different forms of pastry dough such as puff and normal dough. The treats are flavored with both savory and sweet tasting that can satisfy any palate. This magical shop is called La Casita Bakeshop, and you can only get treats on certain days and times.

Testing Recipe: Orange and Chocolate Challah

I love bread. It is the downfall for many of my attempts at getting more physically fit. However, I have rarely tried to make a sweet bread or shape bread into complex shapes such as a Challah bread. If you are unfamiliar with Challah, it is a sweet light eggy bread that many make during the holidays. However, I recently came across an Orange and Chocolate Challah recipe from Delish. It looked delicious. It looked pretty.  So, I decided to try to recreate this recipe with my amateur skills.

It went like this……

Hot Cross Buns: Breakfast Treats

Easter has many traditions from searching for hidden eggs to attending church with family. However, in some parts of the world Hot Cross Buns are a special Easter treat. It graces their breakfast tables and as afternoon snacks. I have to say this is not a personal tradition for Easter, but why not try a new bake. I might even be making a new tradition for my family.

The Italian Baker: Bringing A Little Piece of Italy into the Kitchen

This summer I got to spend a little time in the North of Italy in the cities: Venice, Florence, and Milan. I loved eating my way through the streets and finding the best eats. When I got back to the states, I decided to see if I could recreate a little piece of Italy into my kitchen. Thankfully after many afternoons in the local library, I found the recipe book that I was going to use to relive Italy with. It was called The Italian Baker by Carol Field. This book is jam pack full of recipes from every coast of Italy. These recipes were focused in on the wonderful breads, tarts, cakes, and other baked goodies. So who can resist trying a few?

New Season of Great British Baking Show = New Bakes, New Challenges, New Episodes

Back in 2018, I questioned if Great British Baking Show would survive not only the change in cast but keeping the show fresh. I am happy to announce that Paul and Prue are back in a new season on Netflix. Sandy and Noel are MC-ing it all and 13 more bakers are in the tent. There is currently 6 episodes of the new season have been released for your viewing pleasure. I have the dates of the for the release of each episode marked on my calendar because I am at the edge of my seating waiting for each episode. I love it because the show is my little ray of sunshine on Fridays that offer some easy-going entertainment without the intensity of American competition shows.
