I recently got a Masterclass subscription on a whim to see if the investment to learn from the experts was worth it. One of the first classes I tried was the Dominique Ansel’s Pastry Fundamentals class. He is a famous baker from NYC and France. He is known all over the world and is a true expert. Though, I was still skeptical to take his class. An expert may not be a good teacher since they maybe unable to convey his knowledge adequately.

Revisiting Pastry Love
Strawberries are the favorite berry of my dear friend. We will call him B. His poor birthday is in the middle of winter so not often he gets a cake that has his favorite berry. I wanted to give him a homemade present that was a strawberry cake for his birthday. I flipped through my cookbooks to find the perfect recipes. I found that recipe in one of my favorite cookbooks named Pastry Love.
Revisiting Perfect Finish
Perfect Finish was a cookbook gifted to me by my family, and had many wonderful recipes that satisfied our sweet tooth. I ended up reviewing on my blog, but I haven’t used it much recently as I have been trying to work my way through other cookbooks I have borrowed. I recently revisited this cookbook on my shelf unexpectedly. I was trying to find a recipe that used cranberries, which I consider a flavor of the holidays.
Revisiting Italian Baker
Last year, I found this wonderful cookbook about Italian baking in my local library. It was called Italian Baker. I took a few of the recipes in this cook book and tried them out to see how well the recipes were written and if they were as tasty as I thought they could be. I was very happy and so was my belly. I was so happy to not only keep a copy of the recipes that I tried, but copied a few more recipes to try in the near future. With some free time recently, I revisited these recipes that I hadn’t tried yet and picked one to try out.
Cider Cookies: A Bite of Fall
Fall has officially come and all my favorite flavors are out! One of my favorite seasonal flavors is Apple Cider. So, I searched for a way to celebrate the flavors of apple cider in a sweet treat to mark fall’s arrival. That is how I came up with the wonderful idea of Cider Cookies.
Doughnut Muffin: Breakfast Innovation
Breakfast meals at my house needed a revamp. Not the same classics over and over again so we decided to try out this breakfast innovation from King Arthur Baking Company called Doughnut Muffin. It is kind of like a muffin. It is kind of like a cinnamon cake doughnut. It is the sweet treat creation that I did not know that my breakfast needed.
Pork Floss Cookies: Savory Sweet Bites
Sometimes, I love a different take on the afternoon snack. Sometimes, I want sweet. Sometimes, I want salty. You never know what you could be craving, but what if there was one little Chinese inspired cookie that could be the salty and sweet bite you need in the afternoon? I came across this interesting recipe on Bake for Happy Kids called Melt-in-your-mouth Pork Floss Chinese Cookies. It is a one of a kind recipe that I just had to try.
Pastry Love: Not Your Mama’s Bakes
Flour is one of the top bakeries in the United States and the head baker, Joanne Chang, is a genius. Her understanding of flour and sugar leads her able to have inventive bakes that you can’t find any where else. If you don’t live near Flour like me, never fear there is one way to try her goods without stepping foot inside her bakery. I recently purchased her latest cookbook, Pastry Love. Pastry Love is filled with recipes from the bakery and a few of her personal favorites.
Testing Recipe: Orange and Chocolate Challah
I love bread. It is the downfall for many of my attempts at getting more physically fit. However, I have rarely tried to make a sweet bread or shape bread into complex shapes such as a Challah bread. If you are unfamiliar with Challah, it is a sweet light eggy bread that many make during the holidays. However, I recently came across an Orange and Chocolate Challah recipe from Delish. It looked delicious. It looked pretty. So, I decided to try to recreate this recipe with my amateur skills.
It went like this……
Apple Pie: A Slice of Home
Nothing is more homey than an apple pie. I love the warm spices with the sweet apple taste.
