Revisiting Perfect Finish

Perfect Finish was a cookbook gifted to me by my family, and had many wonderful recipes that satisfied our sweet tooth. I ended up reviewing on my blog, but I haven’t used it much recently as I have been trying to work my way through other cookbooks I have borrowed. I recently revisited this cookbook on my shelf unexpectedly. I was trying to find a recipe that used cranberries, which I consider a flavor of the holidays.

Inside the pages of Perfect Finish, I found the perfect simple recipe. It was a Cranberry Upside Down Cake. I would consider it a more festive version of the Upside Down Pineapple Cake. It was simple to put together but does require some prep work as the steps must be followed in a certain order. When it comes time to flip it over and serve, the caramel, cake, and bright fruit looks gleaming and beautiful. Just look at the photo!

The cranberries give it a tang while the cake portion is barely sweetened by the caramel. I was surprised when even the family members that didn’t have a major sweet tooth went for second slices. I knew it was a success. If it can satisfy my diverse family, then it will be a pleasing dessert for many. It reminded me why I wanted to talk about this dessert book after testing few recipes long ago. Amazing desserts that aren’t in the normal cookbooks.
