College is an interesting time. You learn things all the time. Somethings are expected. Others are not. In the end, all you can do is grow, and learn. We are not experts of life quite yet, but maybe you can learn a little from me. Here are the 10 things I have learned so far in college.
1. Time management is a must know skill.
Juggling life, school, and work all at once is no easy feat. organize and breaking down the time you are going to use for what aspects of your life helps.
2. Find your click leads to success.
You meet so many amazing people in college. Some you will like more than others. Just find the group that fit you the most and you will be able to survive the ups and downs.
3. Professors can be a lifeline outside the classroom.
Professors understand that you are juggling about 40 different things at once. Many of them are willing to go the extra mile if you are lost or need help. You just have to ask nicely.
4. Your classmates can be your partners in crime.
Classmates that take good notes make great study buddies. You could even create a study group together if you need help studying for a topic.
5. Quiet Time = Study time
Plan out time to study in the quiet moments between classes. You will be surprised what you can get done in 15 minutes when you feel like the clock is clicking down.
6. Love yourself from start to finish.
Loving yourself will be the greatest gift you can give yourself. Whatever you need to feel like you can be you, I say do it. I will never judge a day dedicated to nothing but Netflix, bubble baths, and face masks. If anyone calls, be warned that my cell is more than likely off.
7. Take time off for friends.
Deliberately plan a day once a month or every 2 weeks to get together with friends. Life is full of events and it is easy to get swept up in it. However, a lunch a month can help the crazy schedules and busy life seem like nothing. I have even done a Face Time dinner date with a girl friend that lived miles away to help close the distance between us.
8. Cut out time for family.
Family can help pick you up when you are down. They can help you pass a class (Thank you dad for helping me in Law!). They are part of your ever important support system.
9. Prep Your Bag like it is EVERYTHING.
Your backpack is your lifeline on campus when you can’t get back home in time or running between classes. If you think you may need it, from medicines to treat headaches, bandaids, and touch up make-up, go ahead and drop it in your bag. You may never know when you will need it. I have made friends over tissue packets and spare pencils. I have fixed projects with scrunchies. It is a portable DIY kit that can make your day.
10. Be you.
I personally have gone the wrong route of trying to fit into the typical college image. I tried to like things that I didn’t. I tried to dress in the way girls I want to be like dressed. I wasn’t being me and I was miserable. This is a time you should be discovering more about YOU not being someone else. So, be brave and be you. You will be happier and healthier in the end.
