I recently attended a business conference in Orlando, Florida and got to sample some of the best seafood delicacies at the Disney World Resort in Broad Walk Inn. A tasty dinner is the perfect reward after long day of meetings in my opinion so when I was able to snatch a table at Flying Fish, I was floating through the rest of day. But let’s get go onto what you really want to hear about THE FOOD!
I always start my special dinners with a tasty appetizer and cocktail tonight was no exception. The appetizer that I started with was the Snow Crab Croquette with blood orange, tarragon, and piquant coulis. I love this dish because it was full of flavor and umami. The coulis had a nice tangy hint to compliment the crunchy exterior of the crab cake. The dressing under the arugula gives the pinch of sweet relief to the tangy notes of the sauce.
Now, for my cocktail I decided to try the Vanilla Manhattan. I am usually not a big Manhattan cocktail drinker. I am more of an old fashion girl but it peaked my interest and was unusual so I was willing to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn’t pair well with my big flavored appetizer. I say that it was worth ordering to try but next time I think I will stick my usual wine or old fashion.
My entrée was the Hokkaido Scallops with sweet corn, grits, and peppadew emulsion. My lovely waiter recommend this dish to me after I couldn’t make up my mind. I am glad he did because this was the winner for me. The umami was off the charts. It is not super fishy. It has a delicate sweet taste with bright notes to help refresh the taste.
Now for the decadent course of the night, dessert. It was the Cocoa Breach made with vanilla custard, milk chocolate bavarois, and crunch. If you like or love chocolate, this is the dessert for you. It is rich and airy. The cocoa flavor is very powerful.
